Sophisticated, or something else?

By Ruth Limkin

Apparently I am a part of a sophisticated local network.

In this article, which confirms what we have long suspected, charities and churches are lauded for outshining the state government in post-flood disaster recovery.

I agree with the premise of the article, not the least because the charity and church I work with had a team of flood recovery volunteers out again last weekend.

However, I’m bemused that they describe our ability to mobilise volunteers and resources as being due to our sophisticated local networks.

We just call it community.
